My main focus was True Crime. There wasn't anything else I would rather deal with. But the driving idea behind all my work was going to be America's obsession with crime, specifically violent crime. Everything from movies to MTV have glorified all aspects of violence towards others, and in typical bullshit american culture, we eat it up like nothing else except sex. Yet, what makes me both pissed and entertained at the same time is the simple fact that such a large majority of the people out there are full of shit, and love watching other suffer, whether they want to admit it or not. Yet, god forbid if something hits close to home, it's the end of the world! "FUCK YOU". It's all fine and good when it's in "someone elses backyard", but when it knocks on your door, it's "unique", or "a different story". All this bullshit from people who jerk-off to the Sopranos, Law and Order, etc, yet can't even fight their way out of a paper bag. And then there's MTV, in my eyes the root of so much that is wrong in our youth culture today. A corporation that has promoted everything from gangster rap to "Battle of the Sexes" in the guise of free speech and political correctness, yet has the nerve to follow it all up with public service announcements against the very things that make the money. Amazing, and it's eaten up. John Balistreri
