ICETODIRON 2007: Industrial Tycoons Take Over New York Cabaret!

AUTARKEIA organisation, promoting independent industrial subculture, again invites all those who are sick of stereotypical entertainment. It will arrange already the eight international festival of industrial/ambient music, ICETODIRON 2007, which has no equals throughout the Eastern Europe, in very posh cabaret of New York Club (Kalvarijø g. 85, Vilnius) on Saturday, 10 March 2007.

The event will be special in terms of neither a great number of performers (only four guests from Sweden) nor a number of audio/video programmes offered for the audience (only six musical projects on stage). However, the concert will undoubtedly be very impressive. New York Club will be taken over by the elite of Swedish industrial label Cold Meat Industry, worldwide known tycoons of industrial, who have made a vast impact on the development of this subculture.

The genius of industrial ambient, Lina Baby Doll with his masterpiece of delirium tremens Deutsch Nepal, will visit Lithuania for the fourth time. There is no need to introduce the music of this individual as it has been done many times before and the previous concerts of Deutsch Nepal in Vilnius left no one indifferent. At the end of 2006, Lina Baby Doll recorded his new album Erotikon, which will be presented during the festival.

Then leader of Deutsch Nepal will also take part in the performances of another, equally famous project Brighter Death Now. The leader of this musical act that can boast of its darkness and eeriness is Roger Karmanik, the boss of Cold Meat Industry. He is known for his indeed scandalous but very rare concerts. Within twenty years of its musical career, Brighter Death Now has released a number of records in a variety of media. Although all fans of industrial culture can recognise this dark music, transgressing all boundaries of styles, the majority of the LPs have become genuine rarities collecting fortunes in auctions. Both records and rare live gigs of Brighter Death Now have turned into real cult and are likened to such prestigious projects as Throbbing Gristle, Whitehouse or Genocide Organ.

Another star who will perform in two projects is Martin Bladh, a well-known Swedish poet, artist and gifted actor. Besides his solo programme, he will introduce a famous industrial/power electronics project IRM. This Norkoping-born monster is known for extremely powerful, cold, synthetic sound aesthetics and very interesting concept, the underlying principle of which is catharsis generated by martyrdom and thus achieved spiritual purgation. IRM provides its own interpretation of the phenomena of martyrs Jesus, Oedipus and St Sebastian, while its chilling symbol-laden performances disarm the audience. Such artists as Francis Bacon, Herman Nitsch and Rudolf Schwarzkogler have a strong impact on the concept of IRM project.

The fourth Swede to appear on the festival stage is Raison D’etre project leader Peter Andersson, a genius of dark ambient well known in Lithuania, who has earlier visited the country. For ICETODIRON 2007 festival, the Swede will present one of his side projects with exotic name Atomine Elektrine. This name is surely directly linked to the nuclear power plant in Visaginas, Lithuania. It appears that for many years this building has been clouding the idyll of Swedish life and has become some kind of horror star of Swedish TV. Actually, these were the words on the wall of the nuclear plant that inspired the name of the project. Yet, the music of Atomine Elektrine, unlike other compositions of Peter, is characterised by very dreamy and lucid mood, cosmic elements of new age, rhythms of trance and electro, light ambient with female and male chorals and melancholic melodies. Atomine Elektrine is a weird, yet lovely hybrid of styles and many liken this music to that of Kraftwerk and Klaus Schulze.

Among the Swedes on the festival stage, we will also see one Lithuanian project OORCHACH. Lithuanian artist PoPo released his debut album Prisimerkti (Sleepy Eyes) in 2005. It is marked by old school industrial loops, harsh rhythms and mesmerising ritual ambient, and has received the best evaluations from both Lithuanian alternative music journals and foreign labels and critics.

Ghostly cabaret of ICETODIRON 2007 will light its red lights at 8 pm, whereas the concert will start at 9 p.m. Breaks between the bands will be filled in by DJs, while the audience will have an opportunity to purchase the records released by Autarkeia and Cold Meat Industry labels. Prepaid ticket to the festival will cost LTL 60. The ticket price on the concert day will be LTL 70. Dress well and join us in the ball of industrial tycoons!
