“Nordic Audio Modern” – festival of musics and rebellion (announcement).

7 May 2005 (Saturday) should become one the most memorable for those lovers of modern electronic music who are tired of cheasy provincial low budget concerts, of boring lackluster DJ shows who have for a certain time already been failing to offer anything to the listeners, and obviously to fans of grande and rebellious industrial music which is still fresh with ideas. On that day the independent organisation Autarkeia that propagates independent industrial sub-culture will invite everyone to a second international festival of industrial music “Nordic Audio Modern” taking place in an old military bunker of communist times at Subačiaus str. 99. Currently an underground club “Vault” is located there and is an ideal place for a festival of subculture that worships brutal technology.

The second “Nordic Audio Modern” festival will be featuring multimedia (audio + video) projects of even more foreign guests than last time. This year the military bunker will host two legendary projects from Great Britain, four(!) projects from Sweden and one from Latvia and Lithuania each.“Con-Dom” (Control/Domination) and “The Grey Wolves” – these are the titles of scandalous, diversly acclaimed British projects playing for over 20 years yet still topical. Both are attributed to the style of “power electronics” (the most aggressive part of “industrial” music). “Con-Dom” is widely acclaimed as one of the most long-playing projects of “power electronics” because Mike Dando the single creator of the project started at the same time as “Whitehouse”. For all 20 years Mike Dando has been famous for uncompromised sound expression and very straightforward ideology that reveals flaws of organisation of humanity. He was attacked for that as rasict, fascist and was banned in Great Britain for being anti-social. However Mike has been turning down these accussations by saying that he does not promote any ideology at all. He simply reveals flaws of social systems developed by humanity and the main idea behind “Con-Dom” is the fight against any attempt of the system to enslave personal freedom. The “Grey Wolves” is no less scandalous project similarly accussed with many sins in the conservative England yet is worship in the rest of the world. Concept of the project is contained in a single notion of disorder, ruckus, anarchy. These are genuine rebels who have brought to modern days the authentic phylosophy of punk movement of England of the times of “Sex Pistols” and spreading nihilist ideas. It‘s a brutal music for hooligans who refuse to accept stereotype thinking and social taboos. Moreover, it‘s a super “power electronics rock’n ‘roll” on the ruins of rotten idelogy of mass culture.

The Swedish modern electronic music in the second festival of “Nordic Audio Modern” will be represented by Lina Baby Doll, a well-known personna for the music fans of Lithuania and Benny Jonas Nielsen, equally known world-wide performer of dark ambient and modern electronics aka Hazard. Without any doubt, the second “Nordic Audio Modern” can be called the benefis of Peter Andresson since the genius is going to perform in three projects within this festival of industrial music. Apart from famous and well known in Lithuania “Deutsch Nepal” Peter is going to introduce another less-known solo project “Frozen Faces” which was probably never played live, and which is probably the more aggressive and more brutal twin of “Deutsch Nepal”. Lina has given out that while experimenting with the sound of “Deutsch Nepal” he has found a new way for sound looping which was somewhat different in expression. New experiments have been titled “Frozen Faces”. Benny Jonas Nilsen is famous in the world of electronic music and in the world of industrial music under the alias “Hazard”. Starting to perform at a very early stage he has released his first album when he was 15. Later he was playing bass guitar in the “Morthond” project in the auspices of the legendary label of “Cold Meat Industry”. After quiting that Benny started his solo carreer and was releasing darm “ambient-industrial” mixes under the alias of “Hazard”, while he was “glitch/minimal” electronics under his own name. Benny describes his current creations as delwing into the essence of nature, its influence over people and searches for reflections cosmos and time in the sound. Benny J Nilsen frequently works with other famous musicians Phill Niblock, Chris Watson (founder of “Cabaret Voltaire”, ex-member of “Hafler Trio”) and with projects  “Biosphere”, “Ze’v”. In the “Nordic Audio Modern” festival Benny will not only perform his “dark ambient” programme as “Hazard”, but together with Peter Andersson aka Lina Baby Doll will introduce to the listeners a very exotic and rarely live performed project “Janitor”. “Janitor” has a very interesting story behind. One day Peter and Benny have taken their sound equipment and started creating music closed in a hut in the woods of Sweden. Although Lina  has not taken a single drop of alcohol the work resulted in odd, hypnotic tracks with melancholous vocals of Lina. Having participated in the first and the second festivals of “Nordic Audio Modern” listeners could boast having seen all but one project with Lina Baby Doll, the idol of industrial subculture. That is “Brighter Death Now”, however let‘s save this project for the future.

We will be hosting famous guests from Latvia as well who have already been released by the legendary label of “Old Evropa Cafe”. That‘s “Traur Zot”. One can safely say that this group has been the trailblazer for industrial movement in Latvia. “Traur Zot” describe their style as “noise ambient” with elements of  “power electronics”, yet the style is not their distinctive feature, its the fact that each performance of the group is unique and oriented to a specific topic. In “Nordic Audio Modern” festival “Traur Zot” programme will be called “russians are aproaching” where grim moods of occupation of Latvia will be expressed by “industrial” sounds.

The festival will be also featuring video/audio programme of one of the oldest “ritual ambient” projects in Lithuania – “Wejdas”. This project will remain loyal to the concept that has been nourished for a decade – to rise and spread thoughts from deep ethnic sources that have been overwhelmed by modern style of living, technologies and socialisation. During “Nordic Audio Modern” 2005 festival “Wejdas” is going to perform reflections of the notion of ancient times [wheel] – the programme of audio (series of weddings of 9 elks) and video (searches of birth of amber). During the intermissions between performances of groups, DJ Olivers, the guest from Latvia, is going to mix “martial”, “neo-folk”, “industrial” music. Rare original records will be available for purchase.

The festival starts on 19.00 and is going to last till early morning. Currently the ticket cost is 40 Litas. Concert day it will go up to 50 Litas. Tickets are available at Autarkeia or at underground records rent/shop "Zaraza" in Vilnius, Pylimo street. 44, tel. 85 2625786. Autarkeia contacts: info@autarkeia.org or tel. +370 610 61294.
